In this set of slides we look at what DNA is, what DNA is made of and the function of DNA. We also explore the structural and functional aspects of RNA and then compare and contrast DNA and RNA.

What you should know after reviewing these slides:

1. You should be able to describe the structure of DNA and know the components that make up DNA.

2. You should be able to define what a NUCLEOTIDE is and know the components that make up a nucleotide.

3. You should know the difference between PURINES and PYRIMIDINES and know which NITROGEN BASES are purines and which are Pyrimidines.

4. You should know which bases pair together and be able to write out a complimentary strand of DNA from a given template strand.

5. You should know the FUNCTION of DNA (what does it do?).

6. You should be able to define RNA and know how it differs from DNA.
