In this class we went through the process of Transcription, which is the process of turning a gene (a portion of DNA that encodes for a protein) into an mRNA molecule.

What you need to know:

What is a gene?

What are the three parts of a gene and what is their role in Protein Synthesis?

Need to know that the difference between the template strand and the coding strand.

Need to know what happens during the three stages of Transcription:
1) Initiation
2) Elongation
3) Termination

We then tackled Translation! You need to know what happens and be able to describe what is happening at each of the three steps of translation. This is especially important for the elongation step because this is the step where the amino acid chain, which will eventually become a protein, is being built.
